PENNY ORRICK

Group and Pee Wee

I was your typical horse-crazy girl as a child growing up. If it was horses, I was all about it. My entire room was covered head to toe in horses. Window curtains, bedsheets, posters, calendars, figurines, stuffed animals, you name it.

As far back as I can remember my family has had horses and when they got out of them I took my two horses and boarded them until I got a place of my own. That place is Orrick Acres. Savannah is my childhood horse and the first horse I broke to ride. She has probably taught me just as much as I have taught her. She is really where my passion of training started and my journey of lessons began.

I have 30+ years of personal knowledge and experience in everything equine. My personal preference has always been on western pleasure and so that is where I place most of the focus for lessons. I have a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Masters of Education in Administration. I absolutely love teaching and what better than to teach about my passion of horses!

CARA BEATY

Pee Wee

I love horses, and everything about them!

I had a pony at my grandparents as a child.  I never had to do,any of the tack… just get on and ride.  They got rid of him when I was 10. I did the occasional trail ride on vacations as an adult.

In 2018, I decided I wanted to do and know more. I took lessons with Penny Orrick that fall.  I was hooked! From that point on I spent every available moment at Orrick Acres! I helped her every time I could to learn all that I was able!  December of 2018 I got my own horse, Chief. He has been a blessing to me. Penny helped Chief and I with a few things, since I was still pretty new to this lifestyle!

In fall of 2019, Penny was able to start using Chief and I for lessons. I started teaching Pee Wee horse lessons!  It is so much fun. I love watching the thrill on the kids’ faces as they start lessons, then at end of session seeing how far they’ve come!  Chief loves letting people learn to ride on him. He gets to be a lesson horse for adults, teens, adolescents, and yes, Pee Wees!

I’m very proud of the horse Chief is, and super happy with all I’ve learned, and continue to learn daily from Penny, as well as all the horses as Orrick Acres.  I look forward to working with you!

JACK

QH Gelding born 03/03

Laidback. Easy Going. One of a Kind. Life Saver. First Love. Favorite. Gentle Soul. Bomb Proof. These are some of the words I have heard my riders use when describing me.

STAR

MFT Mare born 04/04

I'm the most predictable horse you will ever ride. I don't like to go fast or do anything silly, but that means for some riders I come across as stubborn; especially if I know I can get away with not moving, only a few can get me to trot without assistance. Some people say I'm the most mare-ish mare of all times, but I just want every horse to know I'm the boss.

TANK

QH Gelding born 09/03

Precision is my surname. In my life before Orrick Acres, and my retirement, I chased and corralled calves from sun up to sun down. I can move on a dime and before Orrick Acres I only knew one speed... GO! Orrick Acres has helped me see that slow and steady is ok too. If you are a rider that can handle the reins well, you might get a chance to ride me!

PEPPER

Appaloosa born 2003

I've been there and done that. My exact history no one really knows. I do know I am lucky to have been loved on by so many people, it has taught me to love and trust humans. I'm excited to end my traveling journey at Orrick Acres were I can teach children the importance of how to love and care for horses.

TILLY

QH Mare born 05/08

I love knowing my rider. The most enjoyable part of riding is when my rider talks to me. I'm a tender soul but don't let that fool you; I've got some power in these legs! I do best with the intermediate and advanced confident students.

MAGGIE

QH Mare born 04/07

Other than being a mare and given a natural born attitude, I am such a sweetheart. I'm easy going and easy to ride. Once you understand how I respond to the reins, you will get me to go anywhere!

PERCY

Saddlebred Gelding born 04/06

Slow and Steady should be my middle names. I might be big but I'm the biggest gentleman you will ever meet. I trust and love everyone I meet and therefore make the greatest riding companion. My only downside is I haven't been as fine-tuned as the other horses and can be a little headstrong at times.

SPRITE

MINI Horse born 09/12

I might be little, but my spunky attitude makes up for anything lacking in my height. If you are a wee youngin' chances are you will start your horseback riding journey on me. I do wonderful on lead line and am incredibly patient when the little ones are learning how to hold and put pressure on the reins.
